FAQ

The Kailash Manasarovar Tour is a pilgrimage journey to Mount Kailash (Kailash Parvat) and Lake Manasarovar, located in Tibet. It holds significant religious and spiritual importance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers.

The tour duration varies, but it typically ranges from 10 to 15 days, depending on the route and travel logistics. This includes travel from Kathmandu (or other starting points) to Mount Kailash and back.

The best time for the tour is during the summer months, from May to September, when the weather in the region is relatively mild and conducive to travel. Late spring and early autumn are also good times, avoiding the extremes of weather.

The main attractions include:

  • Mount Kailash: A sacred peak revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers as the abode of deities.
  • Lake Manasarovar: A freshwater lake known for its spiritual significance and stunning beauty.
  • Guge Kingdom ruins: Ancient ruins of the Guge Kingdom, offering historical insights.
  • Tirthapuri: Hot springs and pilgrimage site associated with Guru Rinpoche.

Travel involves flying into Kathmandu (or Lhasa, if entering from Tibet), obtaining necessary permits, and embarking on a journey that includes road travel and trekking. It’s advisable to go through authorized tour operators who arrange transport, accommodation, and guide services.

Mount Kailash stands at 6,638 meters (21,778 feet), and Lake Manasarovar at 4,590 meters (15,060 feet). Altitude sickness is a concern, and acclimatization is crucial. Travelers are advised to stay hydrated, ascend gradually, and be aware of symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and fatigue.

Yes, travelers need both Chinese/Tibetan permits (obtained through a tour operator) and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs permit for crossing into Tibet from Nepal. These permits are essential and should be arranged well in advance.

Accommodation ranges from basic guesthouses and lodges to tented camps during the trekking portions. Facilities can be basic, especially in remote areas, so travelers should be prepared for rustic conditions.

Yes, the tour involves trekking at high altitudes and some physical exertion, particularly during the trek around Mount Kailash (Kora). Trekkers should be in good health and have some prior trekking experience.

Pack essentials such as warm clothing (layers are key), sturdy trekking boots, a good quality backpack, sunglasses, sunscreen, personal medication, and a first aid kit. Pack light but ensure you have everything you need for varying weather conditions and cultural activities.
